Tooth Extraction
When a tooth cannot be preserved due to dental trauma, periodontal disease, or tooth decay, it is removed from its socket in the alveolar bone in a procedure called an exodontia, also referred to as tooth extraction.
Teeth that are broken below the gum line or that have not fully broken through the gums require a surgical dental extraction.
Why Is Tooth Extraction Required?
- Remove the agony
- Stay uninfected
- Allow a radiant smile to enter
1. Tooth preparation and local anesthetic
The dentist numbs the area to be treated by injecting a medication. In order to extract teeth from the gum attachment, a periosteal elevator is utilized.
2. Real extraction
After the socket has been widened, a small or large elevator is used to further separate the tooth. After that, forceps are used to remove the entire tooth.
3. After extraction socket maintenance
The last of the debris is compressed after being removed from the socket. Once the socket has been cleaned, the edges of the bone are filed. At the extraction site, gauze is applied to halt the bleeding.
4. Post treatment care
Painkillers or antibiotics might be advised. Sutures may be used to aid in the proper closure of the soft tissue if the extraction site is larger. The patient is called to arrange for the suture removal after 7 to 10 days.
When to get a tooth extraction?
1.Extreme dental decay
Tooth decay happens when the pulp, which is found in the center of the tooth, becomes affected. The bacteria infiltrate the pulp and lead to infections.
2. Periodontal disease
Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth, including the gums, alveolar bone, and periodontal ligaments.
3. Tooth impact
A tooth is considered impacted when tissue is preventing it from falling out or when the gums have not fully erupted. When it comes to wisdom teeth, this happens often.
4. Intense crowding
It might be necessary to extract one or more teeth to relieve the mouth’s overcrowding.
5. Accident related damage
When an incident, like a car accident, occurs and the patient needs dental care, the first option is always to preserve the patient’s teeth. In cases where the dental issue is severe, extraction of the tooth may be required.
